I chose to write about Juli Palmer's story because I found it was one full of inspiration. She was like any other wife and mother in this world, but what makes her special is that when she found out she had cancer she didn't let it get her down. She stay positive rather than negative, and I feel that a lot of people can benefit from taking Juli by example. It is better to stay positive than waste time and energy that could be used for healing on such negative thoughts.
Juli Palmer's story
Pictures they keep the memories alive.
In the gray, damp, windy day, stands a house. A simple house with green swings and a trampoline in the backyard. A decorative stone sits in the front along the walkway to the front door. Upon the many shaped and colored rocks it sits, the words " The Palmer's" is written in simple white lettering, surrounded by painted flowers. Colors of pink, white, orange, blue and purple appear. A normal house for what some on the outside would think a normal family lives in. A father, mother and their children. But this family is not normal, not when the mother is dying of cancer.Juli's life was far from a simple easy life. A mother of five children. Four boys and one girl. Hectic days were no stranger to Juli. Early, quiet mornings of waking up the elder children from their sleep, to get them up and ready for school. Followed by the younger ones later. The morning rush of not being able to find shoes or backpacks. The struggle and rush of trying to get everyone out the door and into the car, as trying not to be late. But Juli never minded. She enjoyed taking the kids to school in the morning, and to sports in the afternoon. Being there at every game, sidelined with her camera, snapping pictures left and right to capture those precious moments. The reason Juli said for so many kids was because she has a lot of love to give. " I love a lot of people, my friends. Of course my family, but my kids always come first," says Juli.
When Juli decided she word go back to college, she knew she would major in photography. Photography was always a passion of hers. She especially loved to take pictures of her kids. She even won an award.A coach for her son's soccer team gave her an award for always being on the sideline and taking pictures.Around the time of her final project, Juli started to feel pain. She then went to the doctor. After standard test were done, all Juli could do was wait. After a long agonizing wait for the results to come back. By the new year it was official. Juli knew it was cancer. She explains how her and her husband told their children. "We sat them down and told them what it was. Sophie and Seth wanted to know what terminal meant," and I said " this cancer will kill me not now, down the road yes, but you have to understand that I will pass from this".
When Juli learned she was dying, she put her best foot forward. Instead of feeling bad, she pushed to be positive with her cancer but only be positive about her cancer, but also helping others with their cancer. She didn't like that people with cancer put such a negative view on cancer. She kept taking her pictures and living her life. Juli realized her time on earth was coming to an end, when the pains and aches worsened. Her chemotherapy was being switched around. Juli didn't like one thing about her cancer. And that was that eventually she would have to leave behind her family. When Juli was asked if she would changer her getting cancer, she said no, her reasoning as of why. " Cancer is cancer, yes it is a disease, it can be really bad, but you can also be a better person with it. What I have learned, what i have helped other people with, it's okay. We all have to die at some point and honestly I don't think I would change it. Not the dying part, I don't want to go anywhere. I don't think I would change having cancer. I don't regret any of this, they don't give you what you can't handle." Juli Palmer passed away on July 23, 2013. After a long battle to cancer. She never gave up on her passions.
